D1000 1962 Birmingham Snow Hill

Peter Kerslake says "Five minutes to three here at Birmingham Snow Hill and the first of her class D1000 "Western Enterprise" gets some admiring attention from the waiting passengers as she runs in on a duty on the Wolverhampton line.
Allocated to Plymouth's Laira depot from entering service in December of 1961 the pioneer "Western" was joined at Laira two months later by D1001 "Western Pathfinder" with Laira eventually housing a total of fifteen of the class as and when they entered service.
"Western Enterprise" lasted in service until February of 1974, being one of thirteen of her class condemned that year, and whilst seven "Westerns" made it into preservation sadly she was not one of that seven."
