84006 1959-05-28 Higham Ferrers

BR Standard 2MT 2-6-2Ts took over the Higham branch from LMS Ivatt 2-6-2Ts for its last few months. Three were transferred from Burton in early 1959 including No.84006. It waits to depart from Higham Ferrers on 28th May 1959, three weeks before closure. Just look at the immaculate platforms - no wonder Beeching took an axe to this type of branch. 84006 has arrived from Wellingborough with the standard consist of two push-pull coaches in pull mode, and terminated. 84006 is now ready to depart backwards, in push mode, driven from the leading carriage and pushed by the loco, towards Wellingborough. The line under the bridge is looking towards a future extension to Raunds, on the Midland Railway Kettering to Huntingdon line. The extension never materialised, and there was only a small goods yard beyond the bridge
