441 1920s Hellifield

Midland Railway Johnson '2P' class 4-4-0 No. 441. Built by Sharp, Stewart & Co. of Glasgow in April 1893 as MR No. 2216 and withdrawn in October 1925.

Many enthusiasts have stood on the road bridge to witness westbound trains leaving Hellifield, a pastime that continues to this day. Hellifield station and site of the Midland Railway MPD were about half a mile behind No. 441 that will shortly be passing through Long Preston Station about a mile west of this fine 1920s viewpoint.
