49xxx 1955-08-10 Grange-over-Sands
The days of Furness Railway locomotives were long gone in August 1955. The LMS had preferred to eliminate them as 'non-standard' and thus we see one of the long-lived ex-L&NWR 'G2A' 0-8-0s skirting along the magnificent Furness coastline on the River Kent estuary at Grange-over-Sands, heading for Barrow-in-Furness. Just discernable on the right is the exhaust of another train, crossing the impressive 522 yard long estuary viaduct and heading for Arnside and Carnforth.
