Now here's a splendid portrait of a veteran, taken at Carlisle Upperby MPD in June 1933. Ex-Midland Railway Samuel Johnson '1282' (LMS '1P') 2-4-0 No. 185 is the subject. 185 was built Dubs by & Co. of Glasgow in Aug. 1876 as MR No. 1310. It was re-numbered to 185 in 1907 and survived until withdrawal in Aug. 1949, numbered LMS No. 20185. Seventy two years of service!
