BR standard class 3MT 2-6-2T No 82020 arrives at Minffordd with the 4.5pm train from Pwlheli on September 9, 1961.
Peter Kerslake says "A fine overhead view looking westwards down towards Protmadoc with the Garth quarry visible in the left background, a source of much granite ballast used on the Cambrian lines. Empty wagons possibly for the quarry are stabled on the left with the siding leading into the quarry hidden by the coaches.
This picture shows the steep 1 in 50 climb on the sharply curved section of track. Freight workings between Portmadoc and Penrhyndeudraeth, the next station to the east, were invariably double headed with the pilot engines being supplied by Portmadoc shed. Unfitted wagons would have their brakes pinned down because with an explosives factory at the far end of Penrhyndeudraeth station a runaway freight down the bank would be a disaster."
