Peter Kerslake says "This view of Criccieth station is taken at its western or Pwllheli side, with the matching awnings and their unusual design of decoration showing well and the site of the former down bay siding known as the "Machine Siding" is clear to see, that siding could house fifty or so wagons plus their engine before it was removed in the mid 1960's shortly before goods facilities were taken away from here in October of 1964.
82020 is heading a "Down" working to Pwllheli, and being situated at a high level Criccieth had gradients at both sides, the line westwards towards Pwllheli dropping down at its steepest on a one in sixty four gradient, whilst eastwards the line for a mile or so has a down gradient of one in eighty two at its steepest so banking assistance was frequently required for workings in both directions, usually being provided by locomotives from Portmadoc.
The main station buildings here at Criccieth are on the far platform serving workings eastwards to Barmouth and beyond, the Station Master's house being just behind the canopy".
