82009 has come up the coastal line from Towyn and through Llwyngwril to reach here at Morfa Mawddach , running bunker first under the watchful eye of a young enthusiast on the left .
Originally named Barmouth Ferry station as a temporary facility on the site of the original Fairbourne station the station had become Barmouth Junction by 1871 until June of 1960 when it was again renamed and thereafter became Morfa Mawddach.
An important location , its principal function was to permit light engines to turn by use of its triangular track layout thereby saving them a run to Barmouth and its turntable there .
82009 had been one of the initial batch of Standard Class three tank engines to work the Cambrian when the little " Dukedogs " were ending their days , but the Standards were restricted to local rosters due to their limited water capacity and were later replaced by the larger " 82000 " series.
