Morfa Mawddach had originally been named Barmouth Ferry , becoming Barmouth Junction in the late eighteen hundreds until a further change of name to Morfa Mawddach was brought about in June of 1960 . The station at this triangular and busy junction is just visible here behind the G.W.R. signalbox seen in this view and situated on the up side , and 82003 hides the line to Dovey Junction which runs to the right through the station , whilst on the left is just visible the line and platform for Dolgellau and beyond to Chester , the exposed and rugged nature of the area being evident in the background . By this date a number of Standard classes had worked the Cambrian system, replacing a variety of former Great Western designs including Manors , but more especially the little Dukedogs which had for so long been associated with the area and its workings
