5996 1933 Crewe North

Brand new LMS 5XP 4-6-0 No.5996 at Crewe North shed in 1933 shows the Derby application of the 1928 crimson lake livery with stock numbers 14in. high. The ‘5XP’ power classification was positioned in front of the cab window with the ‘P’ below the ‘5X’. The cab window frames were polished brass and the tender lettering was centred with the ‘M’ above the middle axle. The beading on the angled smoke deflectors is rounded rather than flat as used by Crewe.
