41313 1963c Hatherleigh
41313 takes on water at Hatherleigh on the Torrington-Halwill Junction line, probably in 1963. It had been at Barnstaple Junction, which supplied the motive power for the former North Devon and Cornwall Junction Light Railway since February 1960 but left there for Brighton in March 1963.
Peter Kerslake says "Situated at the southern end of the line running down from Barnstaple to Halwill Junction the little station at Hatherleigh served its busy market town in the centre of an intensive farming area although the station was, in fact, some two miles out of the little town.
Hatherleigh station was the only site on the line which had locomotive watering facilities with a water column at the far end of each platform, and both are visible in this view.
Meldon quarry and local clay workings brought a steady stream of workmen to the line and this imaage has 41313 heading down the line with just its single coach and no clay wagons today."
