On summer Saturdays in the 1950s the Ivatt 2-6-2Ts regularly worked on the steeply graded Afon Wen branch double-heading either a Class 3 or Class 4 tank on the heavily loaded special trains bound for Pen-y-Chain and the Butlins Holiday Camp. 41276 from Rhyl was working with a Stanier 2-6-4T at Brynkir while another 2-6-4T waits on the adjacent line.
