41276 1957 Afonwen

Off 6K Rhyl so confirms this train is off to the North Coast of Wales and the LMR. A splendid shot in fine light as 41276 heads away from the western end of Afon Wen towards Pwllheli having now joined the Cambrian line from the former L.MS. line from Caernarvon , the station here being an important one serving not only Pwllheli bound trains on the Cambrian system from Shrewsbury and beyond , Barmouth and Aberystwyth but also those coming down from North Wales via Caernarvon where they joined the Cambrian line here.A tank engine waits on what was known as the "Ash Road" in past days, and the twin water tanks provide an indication of how busy this little station could become , especially on Summer Saturdays in the 'fifties when Pwllheli and its Holiday Camp was at its peak .The waters of Tremadoc Bay lie out of sight to the right of this view, and the station and its surrounds are in an exposed location, open to the elements, especially during the winter months.
