Climbing the bank into the station from the Gunnislake line with the main line to Plymouth visible under the bridge on the left. This was the sixth station out from Plymouth North Road on the former Southern main line to Exeter via North Dartmoor and Okehampton, Bere Alston was the junction for the Callington branch, running via Calstock and Gunnislake . Bere Alston is still in service today with commuter services from Plymouth to Gunnislake still remaining intact and reversing here, although the main line northwards from Bere Alston to Okehampton was closed in 1968
