41315 1960s Gunnislake
The line from here at Gunnislake to the terminus of the branch at Callington was still operational when this interesting picture was taken , it closed from Gunnislake to Callington in 1966 , although the service to Gunnislake from the Southern North Dartmoor main line remained in being from its junction at Bere Alston.
Plymouth Friary's 41315 has plenty of freight to attend to , this area of the Tamar Valley being an important source of fruit , especially strawberries , a different story from days past when the area , with its mines and quarries was a major source of stone , tin , copper and arsenic , all of which , before the railway came , was taken down the River Tamar to Plymouth from Calstock , just south of here.
