Bellerophon 1950s NCB Lea Green Colliery
Ppreserved and currently in the care of the Foxfield Railway, awaiting overhaul, ‘Bellerophon’ was built in 1874 for work at Haydock Collieries in Lancashire to the design of Josiah Evens. Following nationalisation of the coal industry in 1948 this engine became NCB property and was latterly employed at Lea Green Colliery which closed in 1964. The NCB then donated ‘Bellerophon’ to the KWVR. It is now owned by the Vintage Carriage Trust.
