7829 1964-12-28 Betchworth

GWR Manor 4-6-0 No 7829 Ramsbury Manor leaves Betchworth with the 11.35am Redhill to Reading train on December 28, 1964.

Peter Kerslake says "Under a threatening sky 7829 is working well in this fine view in the snow despite its work-weary external appearance as it heads this Redhill to Reading working at Betchworth.
One of the many "Manors" associated with working the Cambrian system in earlier years 7829 had been one of four of the class at Carmarthen in the mid 'fifties before going to Llanelli in 1964. It was later destined to be one of the last of the eight eventually condemned from Shrewsbury M.P.D. in November 1965, the first having been withdrawn in 1963 when 7809 "Childrey Manor" was condemned.
Well fitted for use on the expanding network of preservd lines nine "Manors", including a number rescued from Woodhams at Barry, made it into preservation, but sadly 7829 was not one of the nine."
