58114 1956-05-13 Canklow MPD
Ex-Midland Railway Johnson '2F' class 0-6-0 No. 58114. Built by Kitson of Leeds in February 1875 as MR No. 1142 and withdrawn in July 1957.
The ex-Midland Railway MPD at Canklow was on the southern outskirts of Rotherham. Its design was very similar to many other Midland roundhouses including the now preserved Barrow Hill some sixteen miles further south. In May 1956, the septuagenarian 58114 is peacefully resting on this sunny Sunday. She still has a further year to serve and, as we say in Yorkshire, "owes nobody nowt".
