58110 1949-06-12 Derby
At the time, (June 1949) this was Britain’s oldest working 0-6-0. No 58110, the eldest of the four Kirtley 0-6-0s to be inherited by BR was photographed by Henry Casserley at Derby on a dull day, engaged on shunting duties. Built for the Midland Railway in 1870 this old timer became the last Kirtley survivor when finally withdrawn in November 1951. The building in the background belonged to Aiton’s a large Derby firm which manufactured cast iron and wrought iron pipes.
