A 1890 built J71 in the scrap yard at Darligton North Road. It had been withdrawn from Tyne Dock at the end of August 1959 and would be pretty much complete unless Tyne Dock had stripped it of the brasswork and useful items, clearly they were not interested in the copper safety valve cover. The 9x5" builders plate saying Darlington works is still carried on the bunker side. This particular corner of the yard had a backdrop of luxurious vegetation.
