Ex-North Eastern Railway W.Worsdell 'J71' class 0-6-0 Tank No. 68280. Built at Darlington in February 1892 as NER No. 1085 and withdrawn in May 1957. Ex-LNER Gresley 'V2' class 2-6-2 No. 60945. Built at Darlington in May 1942 as LNER No. 3647 and withdrawn in July 1964.

In the 1950s and long before that, brothers Thomas and Wilson Worsdell's 'J71' and 'J72' 0-6-0 Tanks performed nearly all the station pilot dutes at York. This task continued virtually to the end of the steam era.
