68286 1952-05-18 York
The delightful idea that station pilot locomotives should be given fully lined-out livery was (particularly) practiced by the LNER. Most large stations in their domain, had examples of this excellent public relations exercise. In May 1952 York Station sees ex-NER Worsdell J71 0-6-0 Tank No. 68286 adorned in LNER green livery. 68286 was built at Darlington in July 1892 as NER No. 237 and was withdrawn in June 1952 just one month after this photo was taken by Henry Casserley.
