68240 1950s York South MPD

68240 1950s York South MPD

The 120 Thomas Worsdell NER 'E' class (LNER'J71') 0-6-0 Tanks were the mainstay of NER yard shunting and station pilot duties for over half a century. His younger brother Wilson followed these with 113 of his similar 'E1' (LNER 'J72') class with his preference for slightly smaller wheels and increased cylinder size. This excellent portrait at York South MPD dates from the 1950s. 68240 was built at Darlington in June 1900 and withdrawn in Sept. 1956.
