Peter Kerslake says "Stripped of its name and number plates, safety valve brass bonnet, connecting rods and inside valve covers, 4088 Dartmouth Castle is awaiting its fate in Swindon Works 'C' shop but has been run into Swindon Shed, where engines were occasionally kept often in store, possibly because the cutting-up shop was full. It had been withdrawn from Bristol St. Philips Marsh in May 1964."
