7028 1961 Cardiff Canton
Passing the shed on the right which boasted two breakdown trains complete with tail lamps and packed with de-railing ramps and jacks for the frequent yard misshaps. The strange stone shed to the left always intruiged me, thanks to Lindsay Bryant who explains that it was originally a carriage shed, after the 1930s rebuilding it was used as a milk depot and subsequently for selected parcel transit. Note the ever present 56xx.
No. 7028 Cadbury Castle was always a West Wales engine and clearly a favourite of Llanelly shed bot be stored there for two months in May of 1962 before re-instatement. It would again be stored there in September of 1963 and withdrawn three months later.
Keith Morris tells us that 1F32 was the 11.55 Paddington to Pembroke Dock due Cardiff 2.55pm. (train would reverse at Swansea High St, where 7028 would be replaced with another 87F Castle for the journey West). Llanelly was very fond of its Castles for the brief period they were allocated after Landore closed - luckily one of its allocation - 5051 still survives.
