7024 1959-03 Paddington
Peter Kerslake says "That little lad on the left is chancing his luck being that near the tracks , and I wonder if that's his brother, wearing a similar raincoat on the right, with perhaps dad as well, but they are all well past the usual warning board here at Paddington as 7024, "Powis Castle" runs into the arrival platforms, the engine looking to be in nice condition, and well turned out for this working.
7024 was an Old Oak engine at this date, remaining there until going to Wolverhampton Stafford Road in September of 1961, thereafter moving across to the adjacent shed at Oxley before being condemned from there in early 1965.
At the date of this picture 7024 would have been recently fresh from Swindon Works, receiving its double chimney carried in this view during that overhaul earlier this same month".
