Peter Kerslake says "Coopers Metals , a Swindon based company, had a small yard at Sharpness on the Gloucestershire bank of the River Severn and my view from there on my first of three visits in 1964 shows the front of 4996 "Eden Hall" on the right with 4087 "Cardigan Castle", 5040 "Stokesay Castle", 5050 "Earl of St. Germans" and 5978 "Bodinnick Hall" all awaiting the cutters' torches on the 15th. May, 1964.
As more condemned locomotives arrived here in the following months it seems that the yard's limited workforce was becoming overwhelmed with the result that a number of engines were "sold on" to other yards."
