5091 1964-09 Banbury

Towards the end in terrible external condition on the 1M57, withdrawn 3rd October.

Peter Kerslake says "Withdrawn from her last home shed at Birmingham's Tyseley in October of 1964 just one month after this photograph 5091 "Cleeve Abbey" had been rebuilt as a "Castle" in December of 1938 from the 1923 built "Star" 4071 which had born the same name.
As a "Castle" 5091 first saw service at Bristol Bath Road, later and during the 1950's being allocated to Chester, Exeter, Carmarthen, Landore, Llanelli, both Cardiff's Canton and East Dock Depots, Worcester and finally Tyseley.
This view has 5091 on a Wolverhampton line working when during the "Run Down" of steam when essential cotton waste was no longer made available to Motive Power Depots and their cleaners, so well turned out locomotives were sadly things of the past."
