4079 1965-08-08 Worcester Pendennis Castle
In immaculate condition ready for an Ian Allan Railtour special.
Splendidly captured on film here at what is shown as Worcester , 4079 this day worked this Special from Paddington to Worcester, the outward run being via Oxford, and the return via Gloucester and Sapperon Bank and Swindon.
The Special working shown in this fine view was 4079's very first outing on the main line following her preservation and restoration after a dramatic failure at Westbury on the " City of Truro " Special of 9th. May , 1964 .
On 8th. August 1965 " Pendennis Castle " worked from Paddington to here at Worcester outwards via Oxford before returning to Paddington via Gloucester where I caught her on film heading down the Gloucester avoiding line in fine style later this same afternoon.
One of the former Great Western Railway's finest , and a regular performer on the high speed " Cheltenham Spa Express " 4079 looks here as she would have done in those past times , resplendent in her former colours .
