7013 1963c Cardiff General

7013 1963c Cardiff General

Strangely carrying a 85B shed plate which is correct from April 1962 until stored in August '63. The nameplate has been removed and I suspect it is close to that August date. It was resurrected though and came out of store in the spring of 1964 and worked until the end of June.

Very many of the last surviving " Castles "did , in fact , find themselves allocated to Gloucester Horton Road for their final months in service before finally being condemned from that Depot , but my records show that 7013 " Bristol Castle" was not one of them , her last Depot being at Tyseley from where she was withdrawn in February of 1965 .
It was remarkable that 7013 lasted as long as 1965 as she was , of course , the original and much older 4082 " Windsor Castle " the two engines changing identities in 1952.
This view shows all too clearly how bad things had become by 1964 , no nameplates and no signs of any attention by the cleaners for some time past .
Note the unsightly and ugly massive Davies and Metcalfe mechanical lubricator oil reservoir on the smokebox side
