5090 1950s Pilning
Climbing from the Severn Tunnel and approaching Severn Tunnel Junction with a down express
An unusual but interesting location on the Welsh side of the Severn Tunnel with a rather neglected looking 5090 , " Neath Abbey " heading towards Severn Tunnel Junction on a lightly loaded six coach working .
A Worcester engine in the ' fifties , 5090 was later transferred to Old Oak Common in October of 1960 , being condemned from there in May , 1962 .
My 1956 shedbook shows 5090 " Neath Abbey " to have been allocated to Worcester at that period in time , a Depot which had a reputation for its well turned out locomotives , especially the " Castles " on its books , but poor old 5090 looks to have been missed by the cleaners as she heads a light six coach working here at Pilning at about that time.
In October of 1960 this engine went to old Oak Common from where she was condemned in May of 1962.
There is clearly another main line above the embankment but with my limited knowledge of this area I regret not being able to identify it.
