7017 1948c Paddington

7017 1948c Paddington

A most interesting image of 7017 seen here in or about 1948, the year of its construction at Swindon Works and without its "G.J.Churchward" nameplates which could well indicate that the engine is not long out of Swindon and hasn't yet been named: it is certainly in a splendid condition. The engine bears the "450" Reporting Number of the 7 a.m. from Weston super Mare which it has worked up here to Paddington, probably just from Temple Meads, and the link rod from the cab reverser situated between the leading and intermediate splashers is in the reverse position here, the engine, with its single lamp on the front plating, clearly backing out to Ranelagh Yard or further down to Old Oak.
Allocated to Old Oak Common for the whole of its life , 7017 was sadly withdrawn from there in February of 1963.
