5099 1956c where?

5099 1956c where?

Off 86C Canton so before 1962 and not yet fitted with elbow steam pipes. We think all Castles had received elbow steam pipes by 1957.

This image has 5099 "Compton Castle" allocated to Cardiff Canton and working a local slow passenger duty, whereabouts unknown, the engine not being in the fine condition that most of Canton's "Castles" were invariably maintained so perhaps she was not one of their best!
A transfer in February of 1962 took 5099 to Worcester with a subsequent move to Gloucester in the September of that same year, from where she was condemned just five months later.
"Compton Castle", built in May of 1946 was the first of her class to be fitted from new with mechanical lubriction which replaced the earlier sight feed and driver controlled system.
