5027 1961-04-30 Old Oak Common
A splendid shot of 5027 , " Farleigh Castle " looking to have been especially well turned out for her next call to duty by the cleaners here at Old Oak and I suspect not too long after an overhaul within Swindon Works judging by her fine condition.
This fine picture shows the classic lines of a "Castle " so well with even the double chimney , modified outside steam pipes and mechanical lubricator failing to detract from the original graceful lines of the class , refinements all of which kept many of the " Castles " in service well into the mid ' sixties .
The shedplate shows 81A , which was Old Oak Common , and 5027 was certainly allocated there from April of 1958 before going down to Carmarthen in July 1961 , just three months after this image , before a final transfer to Llanelly in July of 1962 from where she was withdrawn in November of that same year
