7004 1950s Approching Paddington
Ok its mostly steam - but it is wash day! Unfortunately we don't know the date.
Bit of a mystery here as two of my very old record books show this " 965 " Reporting Number as belonging to the 9.30.a.m. from Bournemouth West to Birkenhead , which would not run via Paddington , but I also note that Reporting Numbers beginning with a " 9 " were used for a while before the customary " 1 " in the early ' fifties on outgoing expresses from Paddington , so this could well be the engine for a late afternoon working out from the Capital.
Old Oak's cleaners haven't done a very good job this day on their " Castle " , but in later years , when subsequently reallocated to Worcester , " Eastnor Castle " would be turned out much better than this , that shed retaining a fine reputation for the manner in which its top link engines were always maintained.
7004 is clearly in reverse here , its driver watching the road as they back down into Paddington's departure platforms
