7034 1950s Fenny Compton

7034 1950s Fenny Compton

Heading from the Leamington direction with LMS Stanier stock, the station had an unusual layout with staggered platforms.
7034 , " Ince Castle " makes a fine study here as she storms through Fenny Compton on an impressive passenger express working shown as being in the late ' fifties.
My personal records show that 7034 was to end its working life on or about 20th. June , 1965 and I photographed her on Gloucester Horton Road shed's " Dead Line " just after that date , after having earlier noted her in steam on shed on the 18th of that month, so she probably worked her final freight duty in that area over the weekend of 19th. and 20th. June.
At that date 7034 was one of just three" Castles " surviving in service .
7034 remained at Horton Road until the following August before being taken to Birds at Bridgend for disposal.
