5029 1960s Newton Abbot
Nicely turned out 5029 " Nunney Castle " was allocated to here at Newton Abbot for a spell during the early ' sixties but was a " Castle " which enjoyed a variety of Motive Power Depots during its lifetime , spending time at Old Oak Common , Worcester , Shrewsbury , Laira and eventually , with Cardiff Canton closed to steam , finally in December of 1962 being transferred to Cardiff East Dock where it went into storage before being condemned and withdrawn in December of 1963 .
That wasn't the end of the story , however , as 5029 went to Woodhams at Barry in June , 1964, remaining in the yards there until 1976 when it was saved from destruction by the Great Western Society and restored to main line working order at their Didcot headquarters
