4098 1950s Dainton

4098 1950s Dainton

Down Plymouth expressA longstanding resident at Newton Abbot shed " Kidwelly Castle " has a load well within the limit here on Dainton bank and so no pilot engine has been necessary this day on her run down to Plymouth. 4098 appears to be making light work of the 1 in 36 grade and has steam to spare with no leaks apparent , but unfortunately for the cameraman there's not the usual and spectacular exhaust , so perhaps it's a warm day . Like many others of her class , this engine went to Old Oak Common in July of 1962 when work in the far West diminished due to the invading Diesels , and she was withdrawn from there in December , 1963.
