5072 1961-06-25 Passing Old Oak Common

5072 1961-06-25 Passing Old Oak Common

A panoramic shot with No. 5072 Hurricane heading towards Paddington on 25th June 1961 with the extensive Old Oak Common carriage sidings to the right, and the locomotive shed in the far right distance. The new Old Oak Common signal box, which was brought into use in October 1962 when multiple aspect colour light signalling was introduced, is on the left. This is probably a working from the West Midlands because No. 5072 went from a short spell at Laira to Stafford Road in March 1958, ending its days at the Wolverhampton shed in October 1962. Hurricane was built in 1938 as Compton Castle and renamed in November 1940.
