5031 1960s Tilehurst

5031 1960s Tilehurst

An extremely grubby looking 5031 , " Totnes Castle " is relegated to a local stopping working seen here on the four track main line at Tilehurst near Reading, heading for Paddington, with plenty of foliage in abundance on both sides of the lines . Spending much of its time at Wolverhampton Stafford Road 5031 went to the adjoining Oxley shed in 1963, as did many other members of the " Castle " class in their final years , from where it was condemned in October of 1963. The Wolverhampton " Castles " were rare birds indeed in the far West in the ' fifties, and those which worked further westwards through Bristol ventured only as far as Newton Abbot before coming off their working at that location , invariably with empty tenders!
