5022 1960s Chester
Look at that splendid exhaust, being lifted high into the air by the double chimney on what I suspect may have ben a cold and windy day, all to the advantage to the fortunate cameraman! 5022, "Wigmore Castle" would have been a regular sight here at Chester, being a long term resident at Wolverhampton Stafford Road shed and working the main line from here to and from Birmingham and Wolverhampton on a regular basis, as well as running eastwards to Paddington on the Birmingham line expresses as well. A nice crisp and cold day with some sunshine thrown in as well could often provide some dramatic exhausts for the railway photographer, as I found to advantage myself in years past, whereas hot summer afternoons on Hemerdon bank invariably resulted in less impressive results !
