Is that the new Diesel Depot in the background? A splendid close up photograph of 5076 , " Gladiator " in pristine condition and possibly fresh from Works seen here at Reading . This engine had been at Old Oak Common from April 1963 thereafter moving to 81C ( Southall ) in June 1964 and it appears that 5076 is carrying its Southall Shedplate in this view. During 1940 and 1941 a number of " Castles " were renamed after aircraft in operation during the wartime years , and this is but one example. 5076 was withdrawn from service in September 1964 whilst allocated to Southall.
