7029 1965-11-27 Bristol
A lovely colour picture of " Clun Castle " awaiting depature on 27th. November , 1965 from Bristol temple Meads at the head of the " Farewell to Steam " Special following its run own from Paddington , and the crowds are out to see her as she has just one month left in British Railways service . My notes show that 7029 lost a considerable amount of time on the final leg of its outward run this day from here to Gloucester before her return to Swindon from Gloucester , and when I photographed her on Sapperton Bank she was making " heavy weather " of the climb. Rumour was that there was a leaking Smokebox tube , but the engine had worked a considerable number of Specials in the early months of 1965 as well as being deployed on more mundane local passenger and freight duties and she was certainly on her " last legs ".
