4082 1960c Bath Spa

4082 1960c Bath Spa

What a splendid shot of 4082 , " Windsor Castle " with a local stopping service , and clearly fresh from Swindon Works , running into Bath Spa , with the delightful and distinctive background very much in evidence here.
An inspector together with an interested chap on the platform all add to the picture , and 4082's driver is keeping an eye on the road ahead as he prepares to stop here .
Thiis engine is , of course , actually 7013 , " Bristol Castle " as the two engines ' identities were exchanged following the death of King George VI , when the former Royal Engine of the GWR , 4082 , " Windsor Castle " was unavailable to work the Royal Funeral train and Worcester shed's 7013 , " Bristol Castle " , fresh from overhaul at Swindon , was given 4082's name and numberplates , the two locomotives never thereafter regaining their respective true identities . Following withdrawal in 1964, 4082 was stored at the former LMR shed at Gloucester Barnwood before disposal at Cashmores at Newport
