5055 1961-06-02 Kingswear

5055 1961-06-02 Kingswear

This is a good shot of locally shedded 5055, "Earl of Eldon", formerly an Old Oak Common engine but now at Newton Abbot, at the terminus of the Torbay line at Kingswear.
The engine has a full tender, and her fireman is sorting out the good stuff from the indifferent, whilst his driver has probably been round with his oil can, his steed carrying a fitted express parcels, perishables or possibly empty stock lamp code.
There's an impressive looking can on the front buffer beam which seems rather too large for oil.
5055 would probably have worked down from Newton Abbot to Kingsear on a local stopper and has been turned on the turntable here, the end of the Torbay line.
