5026 5952 1962-06-12 Banbury
On a Down Wolverhampton express. A Wolverhampton engine for much of its working life , initially at Stafford Road until its closure in September of 1963 and then allocated to the nearby Oxley Depot , 5026 " Criccieth Castle " became one of the ten " Castles " at Oxley required in 1964 to cover express parcels workings and the Inter Regional duties to and from Oxford , from the West Midlands .
Summer Saturdays in 1964 also saw Oxley's " Castles " running down through Cheltenham and Gloucester as far as Bristol from the West Midlands at the head of extra holiday passenger rosters , those engines returning home following a brief rest on Bristol's Barrow Road Depot on a returning holiday working later the same day.
Once those 1964 Summer Services ended , however , 5026 , in company with 5056 , 5089 and 7012 was withdrawn and condemned in November of that same year , 5000 having gone the month before , and leaving just five of the class still in service at Oxley until the following February .
