Both driver and his fireman are determined to get into the picture here with their immaculate 5079 , " Lysander ", clearly fresh from Swindon Works , in new colours and "Running In " on a local passenger service .
This Newton Abbot based engine was one of a number of " Castles " based at that shed , frequently put to use on the "Torbay Express " and " Devonian " rosters which Newton Abbot covered and was responsible for.
"Running In " turns such as this were regularly held between the short and easy Swindon to Bristol Temple Meads road and the turn round time at Bristol Bath Road shed afforded the opportunity of checking that all on the locomotive was in order before any return run took place.
