Castle 1956c Teignmouth

Castle 1956c Teignmouth

Although the coaching stock looks rather as if this is a down working from Paddington I suspect that the338 Reporting Number denotes a North to West working via Shrewsbury and Bristol . Unfortunately the identity or shedcode of the rather grubby Castle are unknown, so that dosen't assist and all that can be read of the nameplate is 'Earl of ....' Just visible to the right of Parson's Tunnel mouth and behind the boulders for sea defences is the small Pillbox which I understand dated from the last war and provided a means of keeping watch on this important stretch of the main line and anything which might endanger it from a sea attack. This point is the end of the sea wall from Teignmouth, but the railings protect the steps leading down to the crossing below the line and the path on the other side leading up through the cliff face to the roadway above
