Peter Kerslake says "When condemned in August of 1962 from its home at Newton Abbot 5003 had the distinction of being Newton Abbot's last "Castle", having been housed there since March of 1959 following transfer from Cardiff Canton, thereby ending Newton Abbot's thirty five years association with the class and its demise as an important steam location.
