The 'Castle' has piloted the 'Warship'
Destined for withdrawal in September of 1963 whilst at Old Oak Common , 7018 , " Drysllwyn Castle " looks pretty run down here at a time when " Castle " workings here at Plymouth had all but ended.
This is an " up " working from here at the eastern end of Plymouth's North Road station , probably to Paddington , with 7018 as pilot to D829 , although it was usually the case that the Diesel would run coupled ahead of a steam locomotive in order to minimise steam and smoke entering the Diesel's power spaces via the air intakes.
Laira's shed staff have given 7018 a fair load of coal , but it all looks small stuff but perhaps that's all they had available at this late date
